the following positions report to AMA’s
executive director.)
Title: Museum Educator
Summary: Responsible for overall
administration of the education program
activities as initiated by the Executive
Council, Education Committee, or Executive
Director.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the member educational programs of
the association.
• Assist members, districts, and clubs in
the development and execution of their
educational programs.
• Provide access to and promote the AMA’s
national Model Aviation Museum collection
through on-site and outreach programming.
Essential Functions:
• Oversee implementation of all education
programs, including new program elements,
strategies, and equipment. This includes
developing, scheduling, and administering
youth and adult programming for the museum,
to include extracurricular after-school and
weekend programs as well as summer camps;
managing the C.H. Grant Scholarship Program;
and developing, promoting, and administering
the “Take-off And Grow (TAG)” Program.
• Serve as staff liaison to the AMA
Education Committee, liaison between the
AMA/museum and local/state universities and
school districts for local programming
development, and a member of the museum
exhibit development team.
• Research foundations and corporations to
evaluate prospects for corporate and
foundation grants. This includes preparing,
submitting, and managing grant proposals to
foundation and corporate sources.
• Develop educational contacts to improve
the quality and value of the educational
programs offered by the AMA.
• Develop, write, and/or edit publications
that evolve from the education programs.
Write columns for AMA publications or other
publications as appropriate.
• Serve as an information source to the
public on education programs, general
development education, and varied research
topics.
• Plan and attend education conferences,
presentations, and workshops as approved by
the Executive Council in the annual Program
of Work within budget allowances.
• Manage education portion of AMA Web site
to improve communication among members,
newcomers, programs, and educators.
• Schedule and conduct regional round-tables
for association members that focus on
projects and opportunities for mentorships
with the Education Committee.
• Use model aircraft as tools to increase
student achievement in math, science, and
technology by promoting AeroLab through
teacher-training workshops and exploring
opportunities to add new flight activities
to increase student achievement in math,
science, and technology.
• Cooperate with other organizations to
extend AMA’s educational outreach by
identifying and supporting the work of
organizations that want to use model
aviation as an educational tool and seeking
joint funding with other organizations for
collaborative formal and informal
educational projects.
Credentials and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in education or related
study.
• Experience developing and presenting
educational programs utilizing volunteers.
• Demonstrated success working with diverse
populations, including K-12 school groups,
volunteer organizations, and committees.
• Exceptional written, verbal, analytical,
organizational, volunteer development, and
interpersonal skills.
• Excellent classroom and large-group
management and communications skills.
• Experience in aeromodeling is highly
recommended.
Title: Flying Site Director
Class: Contract employee.
Summary: This person is an
independent contractor who performs a
service for the AMA.
Responsibilities: Acquiring, locating, and
securing flying sites for the Academy.
Essential Functions:
• Respond to all flying site inquires
received at HQ.
• Work with the AMA Marketing Department to
continually develop support programs and
materials in the acquisition and retention
of flying sites.
• Develop a “Flying Site Developer” or
similar type of volunteer training program
nationwide, by district or state, to supply
more local, hands-on support to clubs and
individuals needing assistance.
• Produce a monthly MA column
covering acquiring flying sites, success
stories of clubs’ efforts, or other useful
information concerning flying site
development for both indoor and outdoor use.
• Travel to clubs’/members’ locations to
assist with negotiations in site acquisition
or retention of flying sites when needed.
• Develop working relationships with federal
and state government agencies, to promote
utilization of public land for model
aviation.
• Provide the executive director with an
activity report by the 15th of each month.
• Coordinate and provide assistance to all
departments as needed in supporting the
Academy’s mission and vision.
Credentials and Experience:
• A Solid working relationship with federal
and state government officials and agencies.
• Knowledge and experience in the areas of
aviation, aeromodeling, and related
disciplines.
• A bachelor’s degree or five years or
equivalent experience in a related field.
• A demonstrated knowledge and understanding
of the sport/hobby of model aeronautics and
modeling activities.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written,
and electronic communication skills.
• Travel is required.
• Current or past membership in the AMA is
preferred. MA
