The cover shows Lanie Callery and the
Regent: this month's featured RC design by
Ken Willard (plans 405). The .40- to
.60-size biplane displays both good looks
and good behavior. Lanie participated in
building the model with Ken, Bill Venable,
Curtis Christen, and Bill Callery. "She is
an inspiration to all of us, with her
determination and good spirit," said Ken.
Other RC construction articles this month
are for the 1/2A-powered Boeing XF5B-1
(plans 407) by Robert G. Gable and the
electric-powered RC Re-Volt-er (plans 408)
by Clarence Haught. The XF5B-1 is a two- or
three-channel model that demonstrates
fidelity, simplicity, strength, and
flyability. The Re-Volt-er is powered by a
direct-drive 05 motor and has Old-Timer
looks.
Jeff Perez designed this month's CL
construction subject: the Piper PA-39
Comanche (plans 406). It is powered by two
.25 engines, and its details place it in the
Precision Scale class.
Lil Pieces is L.F. Randolph's Indoor FF
design that is presented in full size this
month. The 12-inch-wingspan model is
reported to fly for 90 seconds in the
average living room or den.
Brayton B. Paul shows his Cam-Axial
engine, for which he just received a patent.
This remarkable power plant turns the
crankshaft as the piston slides back and
forth on the crankshaft. It is hoped that,
with further development, this type of
engine will be used in future models.
New products for this month include
Quadra's Q50 50cc engine, which sells for
$249, and Tower Hobbies' fast-setting,
six-minute epoxy, in a 9-ounce size for
$5.98. MA
