AMA Grand Event/Homecoming

There were approximately 3,500 attendees at the third annual AMA Model/Hobby Grand Event and Homecoming, held June 12-13 at AMA Headquarters, Muncie IN. The event featured activities for kids, such as make-and-take Delta Darts, kites, and rockets, and open flying for members.
Overall, the Grand Event was successful; we attracted many new faces and some not so new, said Joyce Hager, AMA Executive Director.
Full coverage of the Grand Event will be published in the October Model Aviation.

Aviation Field Day

Aviation Field Day was a part of Jamboree ‘99, held May 22-23 in Los Angeles. More than 8,000 kids attended the Jamboree, which was sponsored in part by AMA.
During the weekend, Boy Scouts built AMA Delta Darts with the help of AMA members, flew Radio Control airplanes, and attended ground school (held by uniformed airline pilots) to complete the requirements of their Aviation Merit Badges. More than 400 badges were awarded at the event.
See the October Model Aviation for coverage of the event.

Bill Winter Exhibit

The National Model Aviation Museum (at AMA HQ, Muncie IN) has added a temporary exhibit honoring Bill Winter.
The staff has been gathering books and material already in possession of AMA, and is making plans for new additions to the museum, including airplanes built by Winter and longtime partner John Hunton.
The display was put up in June, and is expected to be in place for about a year.
