INDOOR FREE FLIGHT – URGENT

I would add to “General Information” #15 Officials:

15.3. Indoor record trials – if the appointed CD cannot be present and has not named an alternate CD, or the names alternate CD also cannot be present, then any AMA member holding a valid CD license may volunteer to fulfill the duties of CD and will be recognized as the alternate CD.

Logic:
During the past few years, I have been CD for most of Lakehurst’s 10 – 11 record trials per season. I feel there is a need for more flexibility in the AMA rules for this event. Indoor record trials are not contests, although sometimes referred to as such in announcements and sanction sheets. Except for the change to set records, there are no prizes or awards. With the exception of the July 4th and Labor Day meets, attendance is low, averaging about 4 or 6 participants. Some people come only to fly, to test new planes or ideas, not to set records. CD’s are scarce, mostly older and may have health problems and family obligations. Given the frequency, attendance and informality of these meets, it is difficult to assure that a CD will always be present on a sanction date (sanctions are set months in advance). I can see no reason why a volunteer substitute CD cannot be used. Referring to the “General Information” of the front page of the rulebook, there is a sentence beginning “on local levels, flexibility and stretching of rules is possible. There is no definition of local and since none of us lives in Lakehurst, I guess we are all out of towners.

The addition of this proposal would affect only a tiny group of people within the AMA.

New Propeller Qualified for Pylon Racing

3/8/2007--APC has qualified a new prop 7.4x7.81 The prop is currently commercially available

Please consider this official approval of the above prop in compliance with the 2007 Competition Regulations.

This prop is similar to the 7.4 X 7.8 but with an increase in thickness from station 4 decreasing to the original thickness at the tip. This increases the natural resonant frequency from 46,000 RPM to 52,000 RPM.

It is recommended that all users continue to examine all of the new series props after each run.

Propellers previously qualified continue to be legal for use in Radio Control Racing.

Pete Reed for the Radio Control Racing Contest board.

Free Flight Interpretation Proposal Denied.

The Free Flight Contest Board recently received an interpretation proposal.  The Board has considered this proposal, it was published for at least four weeks and a final ratification vote has been taken.  The proposal failed to receive the required  60% favorable majority during the ratification vote, as such the proposal is denied.

Control Line Aerobatics Rule Interpretation

The Control Line Aerobatics Contest Board ratified the following interpretation:

For events in Control Line Aerobatics which the Builder of the Model (BoM) rule is in effect; the Contest Board has interpreted the rule as follows (please note:  Event 322 is the only CL Aerobatic event in which the BoM rule is fully in effect.  For the other Aerobatic events in which the modeler is not required to have built the model appearance points will not be awarded for models not built by the modeler as indicated in each events rules.)

Current rule:

6. Builder of Model. The CD shall make every reasonable effort to assure himself that each flier has completely “constructed’ the model(s) he uses in competition, including the covering where used, with “constructed” to be interpreted as the action required to complete a model starting with no more prefabrication than the amount used in the average kit. Models which are completely prefabricated and require only a few minutes of unskilled effort for their completion shall be excluded from competition. In the case of rubber-powered models (excluding Indoor duration models), commercially available balsa, plastic, and hardwood propellers may be used. Materials and design may be obtained from any source, including kits. The builder-of-the-model rule applies to every AMA event unless specifically noted otherwise in the rules governing that event.

 Interpreted rule:

6. Builder of Model. The CD shall make every reasonable effort to assure himself that each flier has completely “constructed’ the model(s) he uses in competition, including the covering where used, with “constructed” to be interpreted as the action required to complete a model starting with no more prefabrication than the amount used in the average kit (“average kit” is interpreted by Control Line Aerobatics as a model that may consist of precut, unassembled parts or assembled (uncovered) subcomponents such as wings, horizontal and vertical stab, fuselage; requiring a few hours of assembly time and covering). Models which are completely prefabricated (“completely prefabricated” is interpreted as the model is ready to fly out of the box or in a few minutes (less than an hour) of assembly time.) and require only a few minutes (less than an hour) of unskilled effort for their completion shall be excluded from competition. (Control Aerobatics additionally interprets that any model, that is pre-covered in the box is excluded from competition).

Urgent RC Racing Rules Change Proposal

The Radio Control Racing (Pylon) Contest Board received a rules change proposal that has been classified as urgent.  this proposal was ratified the by the Contest Board and is now in effect.  Contest Directors may enforce this rule change.  Click here to read the proposal.

Control Line Racing a rules interpretation has been completed on paragraph 4. of the CL Racing rules.  This interpretation clarifies what fuel may be supplied for racing events.  The rule currently states:  4. Fuel Specifications. Fuel for two-cycle glow plug engines of more than .054 cubic inch displacement shall contain not more than 10 percent nitromethane, not less than 20 percent lubricant, and the rest shall be methanol. (Diesel engines may use diesel fuel.)  This rule has been interpreted to mean that the contest management is to supply 10% Nitro/ 20% lube fuel for the events.
