Bob
Sifleet sent me information and a photo about
the US team that competed in the 2005 F1E
World Championships held in Liptovsky Mikulas,
Slovakia, September 13-18. Bob was the team
manager.
F1E is the FAI class for FF Slope Soaring gliders. Central
European modelers have been flying this
modeling discipline for decades in the
mountainous regions, including Hungary, Czech
Republic, Poland, and Switzerland, among
others. F1E was not flown in the United States
until 2000.
The US team did a wonderful job at the 2005 World Champs.
Vince Croghan placed third as an individual
and the US team placed second overall.
To learn more about this FAI class, look for an introduction
to F1E in the May MA.

The US team placed second overall. Team
members included
(L-R) team manager Robert Sifleet, Tom Ioerger,
Vince Croghan,
and Peter Brocks.
Solo certificates are available from AMA
Headquarters. Does your club have a flight
training program for newcomers? If so, did you
know that AMA has solo certificates for sale?
Your club could recognize these individuals with an AMA Solo
Certificate for just $1 each. These
certificates are decorated with a blue border
and AMA logo at the top. They even have space
to put the name of the individual being
recognized and the date of his or her solo
flight.
If your club would like to perk up its
training program, please contact Erin Dobbs
for ordering information at
erind@modelaircraft.org or (765) 287-1256,
extension 272.
