Q-120: I saw in a recent FAQ column reference to and a photo of
Joe Malinchak’s micro-sized Corsair. I understand that Joe now has also a
micro-sized Grumman Hellcat. I can’t remember if you included Joe’s E-mail
address. I would like to contact him and ask a few more questions.
A-120: Although Joe Malinchak is a busy airline captain flying for US
Airways, he always has time to answer questions from fellow modelers concerning
his “fleet” of micro-sized indoor RC aircraft. Of special interest, some of
Joe’s models are powered by micro-sized CO2 motors instead of electric motors.
His E-mail address is:
joemal@echoes.net.
If it reproduces properly I’ll try to include a recent photo of his little Hellcat. Ready to fly, the F-6F Hellcat weighs only 5 grams. It is 1/72-scale and operates from a two-channel sub-micro RC system that is supplied by Nick Leichty who resides in Florida. For further information, Nick can be reached at: microflier@aol.com or at (941) 377-9808.
Joe indicated that his micro models are constructed from English wall foam and are painted with acrylics. He also uses decals and plastic canopies taken from plastic model kits. The CO2 motors are made by Gasparin and I believe are available in the USA from John Worth at Cloud-9 RC (johnworth@cox.net) or call at: (703) 273-0607.
