When the airplane is balanced from side to side, the CG is in the middle and both sings lift equally in straight and level flight. When the airplane is imbalanced, one wing must lift more than the other, making the roll balance airspeed sensitive and adding asymmetric drag to one side of the airplane compared to the other.
