Turbine
Waiver Renewal

The 2009 AMA membership renewal season has kicked off, and we have received a few inquiries regarding the renewal of turbine waiver cards.

Your current turbine waiver card does not show an expiration date; instead, the bottom reads: "Only valid with current AMA Membership card." Therefore, you do not need a new turbine waiver each year. Please keep your current card as proof of your turbine waiver status with the Academy.

At its July 2008 meeting, AMA's Executive Council approved the Safety Committee's recommendation to eliminate the requalification requirement for turbine waiver holders whose AMA memberships have lapsed for more than one year. MA

Mark Your Calendar!

At the October 25, 2008, AMA Executive Council meeting, it was approved by acclamation to hold the Academy's annual membership meeting for 2009 at the Joe Nall Fly-In, which has hosted the gathering in the past.

The membership meeting will take place the evening of Thursday May 14. All members should plan to attend so they can meet their organization's leaders and discuss AMA issues.

The dates for the Joe Nall Fly-In are May 13-16; it is held each year at the Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff, South Carolina. MA

Donate Your MA Subscription

Model Aviation magazine is a benefit of being a full member of the AMA. However, we at the Academy understand that some people don't need one more magazine around the house.

There's something you can do with those unwanted copies that can benefit the sport in another way: donate your subscription to a local school library. You can help a school by having your issues of MA sent directly there, and it will help introduce students to everything aeromodeling has to offer.

Among the pop culture and commercial magazines, imagine the pleasure several students might get from absorbing the colorful pages of your premier AMA publication. It might provide that spark that leads them into aviation.

If you would like to donate your MAs, contact a local school and get its permission to have the magazines sent to the library collection. (The school may want to see a copy before allowing MA to be sent there.) Then contact the AMA and speak with Yolanda Jones at (765) 287-1256, extension 224, to have your subscription transferred to the school. MA
