• RC plans builders will be delighted with
the electric-powered Spitfire designed by
Don Srull. It spans 72 inches and can be
powered by a geared Astro 15 motor or a
.20-.30 glow engine. It is plan number 350.
• Don Pruss gives a detailed account of the
RC Soaring World Championships held in
Sacramento, California, July 12-17. Dwight
Holley claimed the individual World Champion
title. Other US winners were Don Edberg and
Carl Blake, who finished 7th and 19th
respectively.
• Features include part four of Bob Beckman
and Kirby Crawford's "Big Bangers for Big
Birds" series about gas engines; the last of
Don Berliner's two-part article about the
Schneider Trophy Races, with seven more
three-views and stories of the winners from
1923 through 1933; and the last of Dominic
J. Palumbo's three-part article "True
Dynamic Scaling and the Flyable RC Model."
• The Indoor Nats was heaven on earth for
Indoor modelers. Bud Tenny reports on the
even, held at West Baden, Indiana. The AMA
Nats, the NIMAS Record Trials, and the
Peanut Gran Prix were contested in the same
place, one after the other. Old-Timers will
enjoy Clarence Haught's report of the 15th
Annual SAM Championships, held in Taft,
California, in the 100°-plus heat.
• Martyn B. Cowley chronicles the
historic 200-mile flight of the Solar
Challenger built by Paul MacCready. MA
