Turbine Waiver Information

"The AMA Waiver" sidebar by Pete Oochroma on page 55 of the August 2008 MA contains some incorrect statements. And the picture shows the application form—not the waiver document, as the text indicates.

The signatures on the turbine waiver application do not require notarization. This requirement was eliminated August 12, 2007, as is outlined in the source that the author references. In addition, there are close to 1,400 turbine-waiver holders—not 900, as the text claims.

AMA members are required to apply for and obtain a turbine waiver to operate models powered by gas turbines in accordance with the current AMA Safety Code.

For more information about turbine operation and/or the waiver application process, review the safety regulations for turbine-powered models at www.modelaircraft.org/PDF-files/510-A.pdf or call (765) 287-1256, extension 251. MA

Lin Reichel: 1927-2008

Lin Reichel, Commander-in-Chief of the Flying Aces Club (FAC), passed away the evening of Monday June 16, 2008. He had been the driving force behind the FAC since 1980, when he took over leadership of the club from co-founders Dave Stott and Bob Thompson.

To read more about Lin and the impact he had on aeromodeling, see Bob Brown's District III column on page 159. MA
