Frequently Asked Questions

Q-124: For noise-suppression purposes on a typical ferrite electric motor, what size/type capacitor should I be using?

A-124: The capacitor I use is a RadioShack No. 272-1065. They are 0.1 uF Polyester Film Capacitors with a rating of 50 volts DC. To do the job right, you should use three on each ferrite or cobalt motor. One capacitor goes directly across the two motor terminals. Then one capacitor goes from each terminal to ground (soldered to the motor case). That should do it!
