Q-62: I’m kind of new at the model aircraft hobby and have been reading many references to using foam (Styrofoam) as a lightweight, inexpensive building material. How can I learn more of the details of this type of material?
A-62: I normally might not have been able to answer a question like
this in a specific sense. But by a stroke of luck a Texas modeler friend just
sent me a copy of his new book, titled Building with Foam (a beginners
guide to building model airplanes with foam). The author is Keith Sparks of
North Richland Hills TX. Keith has self-published this reference source on foam
building techniques and is selling it privately. You can easily reach Keith at
his E-mail address:
parkflyerplastics@att.net.
The book is in a bound 8 ½ X 11-inch format and consists of almost 80 pages with
many photos and illustrations. There are chapters on foam types and their
application, how to cut the foam, and how to cement or join it with other foam
and/or other materials. Selling price is $16.95 plus $5 shipping via US Priority
mail. Let me know what you think!
