The Mother Ship

Wesley C. Minear (1659 Valecroft Ave., Thousand Oaks CA 91361) built this Mother Ship flying wing. The model is powered with an Aveox 1010 2Y with a 4.4:1 planetary gearbox driving a 14 x 8 folding carbon fiber propeller.

The motor mount is a balsa block cut to match a Zagi mount angle, and the power comes from 10 2400mA Sanyo batteries.

Flight times range from 20 to 45 minutes depending on available lift. The motor cover is a fiberglassed 2-liter Coke bottle. It has a wingspan of 83 inches, and has 1,441 square inches of wing area. The weight is 4 pounds, 7 ounces, plus 1 pound, 7 ounces of battery.
