A GI's Cub

Ed Daum (2515 Lincoln Ave., Belmont CA 94002; E-mail: eadaum@att.net) built this Piper L-4 (a World War II military version) from a Balsa USA 1/3-scale J-3 kit. The 140.75-inch wingspan model features an O.S. FT-300 Gemini four-stroke twin engine, turning a 20 x 8 propeller.

All of the cockpit controls work and are driven in parallel with their own servos. The instrument panel has scale gauges and all of the rib stitching and tapes are reproduced. The model is covered with Sig Koverall and finished in butyrate aircraft dope. It weighs 29.87 pounds.

Ed wrote, “The airplane is still not finished, but work has slowed to a standstill. It has 10 flights on it, and it flies very scalelike. (I have some hours in the real thing.)”
