Phaeton II Ron Bozzonetti (3783 Boteler Rd., Mount Airy MD 21771; E-mail: ronboz1@juno.com) built this Phaeton II biplane from a Balsa USA kit. It is powered by a Saito .65 and controlled with FMA Direct radio and servos. The fuselage and tail surfaces are covered with Polyspan and painted with Sig butyrate modeling dope. The wings are covered with MonoKote. Numerous lightening holes were made in the fuselage aft of the cockpit and in the tail surfaces to reduce weight as much as possible. Two modifications were made to the fuselage. The open cockpit was converted to a closed canopy, and a new cowl was fabricated from balsa to yield a more streamlined appearance. |
