Academy of Model Aeronautics - 2011 Student Aviation Art Contest

The theme of the National Model Aviation Museum's 5th Annual Student Aviation Art Contest was "The Golden Age of Aviation." Artwork focused on aircraft development and culture during the years between WWI and WWII.

The winners are:

	Best in Show: Isaac Bow, 4th Grade Sikorsky S-42 “My airplane is the Sikorsky S-42. It was an American airplane used by Pan American Airways. It was built in 1934. The Sikorsky was designed by Igor Sikorsky. Only 10 were built, and none remain. This airplane was based off of the earlier Sikorsky S-40. I choose this airplane to draw because it is a seaplane, and seaplanes interest me. I would like to ride in a seaplane.”
	Kindergarden-1st 1st place: Drayden Gates, 1st grade The Flying Spruce Goose “I liked how it could land in water.”
	Kindergarden-1st 2nd place: Alden John Mahaffey, Kindergarden Ford Tri Motor “I picked this plane because I thot it wus cool.”
	2nd-3rd grade 1st place: Hudson Bouw, 2nd grade Curtiss JN-4 “My airplane’s name is the Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny”. It was an American airplane used after World War 1. I like this airplane because it is a biplane, and that it was used for stunts. In my picture the stunt men are playing tennis on top.” “I picked this plane because it was my favorite one.”

	2nd-3rd grade 3rd place: Emma Schuck, 3rd grade The Cessna “I drew the Cessna because it was the easiest one to draw and the coolest one too”
	4th-6th 1st place: Alecia Bechdolt, 4th grade Bleriot XI “I picked this plan because it looked like a challenging plane to draw so I really wanted to try and draw it.”
	4th-6th 2nd place: Laura Nagle, 5th grade The Cessna Airmaster “The reason I chose this plane is because it looked neat to draw and it was chanllenging and fun at the same time. I also chose this plane because I could draw it soaring in the clouds!”
	Alex Herbst, 5th Grade Spruce Goose “I like this plane because it is closest to the modern day jumbo jet and land in water.”

Dane Baker, 2nd grade The Flying Plane “I picked the Cessna because it was very cool. I also picked it because it looked hard and like drawing things that are hard.”	Abbey Christine, 3rd grade Spruce Goose on the Loose “I saw the real Spruce Goose at the Greenville Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon and got to walk in part of it. It’s the biggest wooden plane ever made.”

Samuel Coffman, 2nd grade The Cessna “I liked it because it had an inside so if its freezing I won’t turn into an icecube. Also I’ve never seen a plane like that. There’s so much more. I could of done a dolphins a shark fin or fish.”
