Club Disaster Assistance Program

At the October 2005 Executive Council Meeting at AMA Headquarters in Muncie, Indiana, the Executive Council approved a new program designed to grant immediate financial assistance to AMA Chartered Clubs that have flying sites that were damaged because of a natural disaster such as a tornado, hurricane, earthquake, or firestorm. The grant is designed to assist clubs in the area of clearing debris and such so that the field is once again accessible and usable to club members. It is not designed to pay for repairs to structures or facilities, except as to the extent to make the facility and runway adequate for flying once again.

In an effort to act quickly on the Disaster Assistance Program, the Executive Council allocated $20,000 to this effort at the October meeting. The grant is limited to $500 per club and must be applied for by sending your application to Joyce Hager, Staff Director at:

Academy of Model Aeronautics
c/o Joyce Hager, Flying Site Disaster Grant
5161 East Memorial Drive
Muncie IN 47302

Remember, your club must provide adequate pictures and information for your application to qualify.

So, if your club flying site sustained damage as a result of a federally declared disaster, you may qualify for this grant. The application is designed to be streamlined to allow for quick payments to help clubs get back to flying.

Note that this is a grant, not a loan! You will not be required to repay AMA for this in the future.
