Supporting Youth

Scholarship Fund

Every year the AMA provides several sizeable scholarships to deserving students who are heavily involved in model aeronautics and plan to pursue scientific or technical careers. In 2012, AMA youth member Brian Pacelli of Wallingford, Connecticut , was  one of the Academy’s scholarship winners. He was awarded more than $14,000 in scholarships that will help him attend Muhlenberg College where he will double major in Physics and Theater.

Education

The Academy is devoted to education through model aviation. Donations from supporters like you allow the education team to pursue avenues that propel education and ignite creativity with concepts from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education.

One of the team’s goals is to provide aviation-based programs to clubs and educators across America. Here are just a few of the programs education donations support:

AMA Youth Membership: The AMA provides full membership benefits to Youth members under the age of 19 to learn about the hobby and the many benefits of learning to fly. Youth members receive all of the insurance and benefits as a regular membership, scholarship opportunities, and the new Youth e-newsletter, Flightline.

Camp AMA: Camp AMA is a week-long summer camp held at the International Aeromodeling Center every year for aeromodelers ages 13-18 to develop their model aviation skills with some of the best RC pilots in the nation. Due to financial constraints, many Youth members who would like to attend Camp AMA cannot. Individuals and clubs can sponsor a student in their area or a student who has shown interest through the AMA by contacting the Education department via email: Click here to learn more

Charter Club Outreach: Clubs are a very important component of the AMA. The Academy is devoted to helping its clubs. The Charter Club Outreach Program enables clubs wishing to promote youth and aviation-centered educational activities. Support materials, including program information and curriculum ideas, are provided to clubs on a regular basis for presentations to local schools, Scout groups, summer camps, and other youth organizations.

Planned Giving

Estate Planning

Please consider the AMA in your estate planning. Bequests from AMA’s members and supporters have helped significantly expand the programs of the Academy. AMA’s international events, educational programming, its museum, and regular advancements in the hobby are helped with generous donations of supporters who name AMA in their wills and trusts.

A bequest allows you to memorialize a loved one and provide financial support for the advancement and commemoration of aeromodeling.

Do you have a will? Two-thirds of American adults don’t. Do you need one? In most cases, the answer is yes.

AMA’s Development Office is available to discuss your options for making a contribution in your will to the future of aeromodeling. Contact AMA via phone (800) 435-9262 x 276, or 277, or via email, .

AMA Walk of Fame

Established in 2001, the AMA Walk of Fame at the International Aeromodeling Center is designed in the shape of a large propeller and signifies the history of the hobby with honored names from all sectors of model aeronautics. Purchasing a brick along the Walk of Fame permanently includes your name, or the name of an honoree, along this scenic walk. It’s a permanent testimony to your continuing support of the hobby.

Walk of Fame bricks are available in different shapes, colors, and materials.

Government Relations/Advocacy

During the past several years, model aviation has been brought under review by the FAA. Your government relations team has continuously worked with the FAA and Congress to protect the sport and pilots’ flying privileges. Donations made toward this effort help AMA’s Advocacy Team with its work on Capitol Hill and go directly to supporting the costs associated with efforts made on behalf of the entire aeromodeling community.

Please regularly check our government relations website for updates on issues facing the model flying community at www.modelaircraft.org/gov. If you would like to communicate directly with your Advocacy Team, email .
