State and Local Issues
AMA’s Government Affairs program is intended to create a working relationship with governmental entities whose actions, polices, and/or regulations impact the aeromodeling community. Our team works to preserve the freedom of our hobby and reduce overbearing regulations on the federal, state, and local level. The AMA also works alongside various companies and parks departments to promote safety, education, and innovation in the UAS industry.
Recently, we were alerted to a city council meeting in Alabaster, AL where a discussion on a new UAS ordinance was listed on the agenda. AMA engaged with the city council and local AMA members to offer guidance and resources. As a result of these efforts, the council tabled the ordinance pending further review. Please reach out to us if you hear about problematic legislation proposals in your area; it is more productive to assist local government with guidance in the early stages of legislation.
We thank all of our members for your support of our long-standing hobby. You can find the latest advocacy information on our website at modelaircraft.org and we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns with ordinances in your area.
