Dear Mr. Beshar:
Thank you for the opportunity to express support for the work done by the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Like AMA, the United States Naval Academy is deeply committed to teaching our future leaders the mechanics, fundamentals and the joys of flight. Our Midshipmen often go on to become Naval Aviators, Naval Flight Officers, and even NASA Astronauts; and many of these bright young men and women were aviation modelers at one time.
Our aerospace engineering majors study aerodynamics, astrodynamics, flight structures and mechanics, satellite design and control and more. As seniors, these students design and build an aero or space flight vehicle. In August of 200 I, some of them will launch our first student-built satellite into space from the Kodiak, Alaska spaceport.
There are many parallels between your organization's fine work and ours. I commend AMA on its commitment to aviation modeling and to the character development values it instills in young people.
Keep flying and keep up the great work of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
Sincerely,
J. R. RYAN
