The Signal Seekers RC Club was founded on March 8th, 1964 in Wayne, Michigan by a group of RC enthusiasts who were looking for a place to get together to hang out, swap modeling ideas, and (most of all) fly model aircraft. Now in Westland, Michigan, they are a community-centered, non-profit organization that promotes building, instructing, promoting, advancing, and ultimately flying model aircraft. The club is open to electric, nitro and gas powered aircraft, including fixed wings, gliders, helicopters and FPV racers.
The club boasts over 200 members and offers a robust training program to introduce new members, both young and old, to this fantastic hobby. Pilots enjoy over a hundred acres of flyover space for all varieties of aircraft and helicopters. Four acres of the property are manicured, including a 450′ runway, a 200′ control line circle and a one acre dedicated FPV track. A permanent shelter, added in 2013 with an AMA field improvement grant, provides 720 square feet of shade and a place for spectators to relax and watch the pilots. Additional AMA grants have been received over the years for runway expansion, a sea container for equipment storage and a solar powered charging station to reduce the noise and pollution associated with running generators at the field.
Signal Seekers hosts several events throughout the year, including control line contests, friendly competitions with other area clubs, visits by schools and scout troops and fundraisers for a local school servicing students with autism.
Signal Seekers was honored to receive Gold Leader Club status in 2023.
