Become a Contest Director or Event Manager
AMA Contest Directors and Event Managers play an important role in supporting and promoting the sport and hobby of model aviation by organizing competitions and events for participants. As an AMA member meeting the membership requirements outlined below, you can become an Event Manager and organize sanctioned fly-ins, or become a Contest Director and organize official AMA competitions!
Because of the important role Contest Directors and Event Managers play in supporting and promoting model aviation activity, active Event Managers and Contest Directors can earn 50% discount from their annual membership dues!
What is an Event Manager?
Event Managers (also called EMs) learn about the resources made available by AMA to ensure model aviation events, such as fly-ins, are conducted in a way that they are fun and safe for pilots and spectators alike.
Event Manager eligibility
To become an Event Manager, an AMA member must meet the following conditions:
- Must be a current ADULT Class member.
- Have at least one (1) consecutive year of current membership.
- Pass the AMA Event Manager exam.
- Submit a $25.00 Event Manager application and processing fee.
- Must be full-time resident of US.

What is a Contest Director?
Contest Directors (also called CDs) learn about event safety and about conducting official AMA contests, sometimes referred to as AMA Rulebook Contests to ensure the competition is fun, safe, and fair.
Contest Director eligibility
To become a Contest Director, an AMA member must meet the following conditions:
- Must be a current ADULT Class member.
- Have at least three (3) consecutive years of current membership.
- Pass the AMA Contest Director exam.
- Submit a $25.00 Contest Director application and processing fee.
- Must be full-time resident of US.
